As Board Chair of the Latino Community Foundation (LCF), I am extremely proud to share the exciting news that Julián Castro will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2024.
Reflecting on his vision for LCF’s next chapter, Julián has shared the following thoughts:
“America’s destiny and the destiny of Latinos are intertwined like never before. Latinos represent 19% of our nation’s population, the fastest-growing racial and ethnic voting group and a $2 trillion engine of our national economy. We’re in the driver’s seat of America’s future, but to unlock the full potential of Latino communities and our nation as a whole, we must invest more in Latinos and Latino-led organizations. My vision is for LCF to fund a national movement of Latino power building that results in a more inclusive and equitable America. As the son of a Chicana activist and the grandson of a Mexican immigrant, this mission is personal. As an American, ensuring the success of the 60 million Latinos living in our nation is simply imperative.”
We are thrilled to welcome Julián into this role, where he will continue building on an exceptional record of public service as the former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Obama administration, as Mayor of San Antonio prior to that, and most recently as a 2020 presidential candidate. Throughout his career, Julián has worked tirelessly to boost the upward mobility of Latino families, helping to improve educational opportunity, the availability of affordable housing, and good paying jobs to Latino communities.
Julián is looking forward to meeting with our extended LCF Familia of community partners, donors, and funders as he steps into this role. The LCF Board will work closely with Julián and our extraordinary staff to carry on LCF’s strong culture and values. We are deeply grateful to Jacqueline Martinez Garcel for her bold, transformative leadership. She set the bar high and worked tirelessly to build an anchor institution to deliver on the mission to unleash the civic and economic power of Latinos. With integrity, love, and grace, she has reimagined the future of Latinos in California and has set the stage for us to continue advancing this mission and take this work nationally. I am delighted she has agreed to serve as a senior advisor to Julian through March 2024 to ensure a seamless leadership transition for the organization.
It is inspiring for the leadership of LCF to be handed from one extraordinary leader to the next!
We’re excited to kick-off the new year with Julián at the helm of LCF and look forward to continuing to work together with you to deepen and expand LCF’s impact. Thank you for your unwavering support of LCF.
Adelante!
