In response to the devastating wildfires that have upended the lives of thousands of families in the Los Angeles community, the Latino Community Foundation is announcing $1 million in grants from our California Wildfire Relief Fund. These funds will provide critical and immediate support to community-based organizations focused on the inclusion and support of Latino workers and families in local relief efforts.
Our hearts are with all those enduring unimaginable loss by these wildfires.
LCF is moving resources quickly to organizations that have the trust of the communities they serve—as they deliver immediate relief to the families, workers, and small business owners who are the heart and soul of Los Angeles. History has shown that recovery from a natural disaster like this one will take years, and we know Latino and immigrant communities will be asked to take this on. They must be prioritized in this equitable recovery.
These grants will provide immediate relief through cash assistance and other support to day laborers, domestic workers, street vendors, small business owners, renters, homeowners, and others whose lives have been turned upside down by this tragedy.
In addition, these grants will boost supply distribution, bolster health services, facilitate language justice and inclusion for emergency communications, and support youth and arts engagement pertaining to immediate needs.
The organizations to receive the first round of California Wildfire Relief Fund grant funding are:
•Comunidades Indígenas en Liderazgo (CIELO)
•Inclusive Action for the City
•Instituto de Educacion Popular del Sur de California (IDEPSCA)
•National Day Labor Organizing Network (NDLON)
The investment of $1 million reflects LCF’s ongoing commitment to rapid response efforts in times of natural disasters and emergencies. Over the years, LCF has allocated millions to support Latino and immigrant communities in the aftermath of wildfires, the COVID-19 pandemic, and other crises.
