Having the energy to radically reimagine the world we deserve requires a clear mind and a calm heart. This is especially important for grassroots Latino leaders working tirelessly to build power. Our nonprofit leaders are exhausted from the on slaughter of crises in our communities. We have collectively neglected our health and wellbeing as a price we pay for creating social change and building strong anchor institutions.
When our leaders burnout— it harms them, their families, their organizations, and the movements we lead. It doesn’t have to be this way.
At Latino Community Foundation (LCF) we are reclaiming rest as both a right and a responsibility. The most effective institutions and movements are driven by energetic, inspired people! Rest is the most productive thing we can do to advance power building in our communities. We are committed to nurturing a culture that recognizes the fundamental importance of rest. This year, LCF is thrilled to launch a new program that provides leaders and organizations funding and resources to make rest a reality and a priority.
A rested collective is more creative, powerful, and will lead from a place of strength.
Introducing the Latino Power Fund Sabbatical Program
The newest addition to our Latino Power Fund is a Rest is Power Program to resource sabbaticals. It’s time to transition our movements from surviving to thriving. Not only will we provide funds to make a sabbatical possible, but LCF will help organizations build a plan and the infrastructure to make that rest possible and regenerative at the organization. This effort is part of our long-term strategy to embed healing, promote retention, and cultivate sustainability in grassroots, Latino-led power building organizations.
2023 Rest is Power Sabbatical Recipients
Latino Community Foundation is immensely proud to fund a season of rest for eight grassroot Latino leaders, as part of our Pilot Rest is Power Sabbatical Program. These eight leaders are existing partners of LCF who served on the frontlines during the pandemic. Each represented organization is instrumental in building civic and economic power for Latino’s in LCF’s priority regions of the Central Valley, Inland Empire, and Central Coast. To these eight leaders we send our deepest gratitude for their unyielding commitment to our community. We also thank each individual from their organization who make these Sabbaticals possible. Together, we are building a liberated future that cares for/honors our community builders, healers, and dreamers. Together, we are embracing a mindset of abundance that disrupts scarcity mentality. This is how we win!
