Latino Community Foundation and Eva Longoria Foundation Join Forces to Invest in Latina Entrepreneurs in California
Eva Longoria, Zoë Saldaña and leaders from across the nation come together to honor the strength and resiliency of Latinos at LCF’s “Coming of Age” Virtual Celebration on May 21st
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA — May 19, 2020 — The Latino Community Foundation (LCF), the premier foundation solely focused on investing in Latino Leaders, hosts its 15th Gala Anniversary on Thursday, May 21 beginning at 6:30 p.m. PST. The “Coming of Age” Celebration will honor the contribution of Latino community leaders, entrepreneurs, and farmworkers.
During the program, LCF and Eva Longoria Bastón, award-winning actress, producer, director, entrepreneur and philanthropist, will announce a new initiative to invest and support Latina entrepreneurs in California.
“The Latino Community Foundation exists to unleash the civic and economic power of Latinos,” said Jacqueline Martinez Garcel, CEO of LCF. “This joint effort to invest in our entrepreneurs and small business owners comes at a critical moment. Latinos are the backbone of California’s economy. By investing in them we will rebuild a more inclusive and prosperous economy.”
Latinos have been hardest hit by this current public health crisis and its economic fallout. Yet, following the Great Recession of 2007-2008, it was Latinas that helped rescue California’s economy by owning and starting over 433,000 businesses, a 111 percent increase from 2007 to 2016.
“I created the Eva Longoria Foundation to help Latinas build better lives for themselves and their families through education and entrepreneurship,” said Eva Longoria Bastón. “Latina entrepreneurs generate almost $100 billion in revenues for our country and employ millions of people. It’s in everyone’s best interest to ensure that these community leaders have the resources to endure this crisis and emerge from it stronger.”
Special appearances by Zoe Saldaña, Benjamin Bratt, and Dolores Huerta will be made at the LCF Virtual Celebration. The organizers will send a message of hope and unity to Latinos across the country. This year LCF is honoring Luz Gallegos, executive director of TODEC Legal Center in the Inland Empire as this year’s 2020 Leading Change Award Recipient.
Proceeds from the event also support Latino-led organizations providing life-sustaining services to low-income families impacted by wage loss as well as farmworkers and their families in the Central Valley and Inland Empire. LCF was the first organization to launch Love Not Fear Fund to support undocumented immigrants. The fund has already supported over 30 organizations by providing financial relief to families.
