The outpouring of generosity in response to the Los Angeles wildfires reminds us of an undeniable truth: leading with compassion is our strength. Guided by love, culture, and an unwavering commitment to one another, the Latino community came together to meet a moment of crisis.
Today, we are proud to announce an additional $1 million in grants from our California Wildfire and Disaster Relief Fund, bringing our total investment in Los Angeles wildfire recovery to $2.1 million. Our community partners have continued to respond to the pressing demand for additional direct cash assistance. They are also providing support for tenant and workers’ rights advocacy, mental health services, youth programs, and more. This grassroots power will be what helps bring Los Angeles back even stronger, and we’re proud to continue standing with these leaders.
LCF has raised over $5 million from across the nation, including more than $84,000 from our Latino Giving Circle Network®. In total, more than 2,000 individuals have donated to the fund since January 9—a powerful demonstration of collective action. This generosity is a reflection of our community’s strength and commitment to one another.
Today’s investments are part of our broader strategy to support a just and equitable recovery for Los Angeles. Our focus will continue to be on protecting the most vulnerable, particularly our immigrant, Latino, Black, and AAPI communities, while building the civic and people power needed to drive a just recovery.
Our response was powered by the collective strength of nuestra gente and our belief in familia, with a commitment that no one is left behind. As your community foundation, we could not have done this without you. To our community partners and every person who gave to the California Wildfire and Disaster Relief Fund—thank you! Our resilience is built on moments like these, moments in which love moves faster than disaster.
We will continue investing in an equitable recovery for Los Angeles as the community rebuilds and comes back even stronger.
