Foundation Unites Latino Donors to Protect American Values in Central Valley
14 Latino Nonprofits Working on the Frontlines of Defending Immigrant Rights Will Receive Funds from Latino Community Foundation
SAN FRANCISCO, CA June 27, 2017 – The Latino Community Foundation (LCF), the only statewide foundation focused on investing in Latino leadership, is uniting philanthropists to support immigrant families in the Central Valley.
Immediately following the election results, LCF established the Nuestro Futuro Fund to protect and defend immigrant families across California. LCF will be awarding $124,000 to 14 Latino-led grassroots organizations that provide free legal aid and advance immigrant rights advocacy. The majority of these grants will be made to support Latino families in Fresno, Modesto, Tulare and Kern Counties.
“Latinos are the backbone of California, the 6th largest economy in the world” stated Jacqueline Martinez Garcel, CEO of the Latino Community Foundation, “Our leaders are ready to stand together and protect American values and the most vulnerable in our communities.”
California is home to 10 million immigrants who contribute $650 billion annually to the State’s economy. The current political climate has ignited a philanthropic response by key Latino leaders, like Julio Marcial from the California Wellness Foundation. Individuals like Elise Haas have also joined forces to defend immigrant rights by making a substantial investment in LCF.
Organizations receiving grants include Central Valley Immigrant Integration Collaborative; Centro Legal de La Raza; California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation; SIREN; La Luz Center; UFW Foundation; The Unity Council; Centro La Familia; Education Leadership Foundation; El Quinto Sol; Encampment for Citizenship; Mi Familia Vota; Santa Cruz Barrios Unidos; and Faith in the Valley.
As the premier Statewide Latino Foundation, LCF is committed to unleashing the power of Latinos in California, ensuring they continue to shape California’s economic, cultural, and civic future.
