Did you know that, fifty five years ago there were zero Latinos in the California State Legislature? Today, The Latino Caucus has 22 members and is one of the most influential groups within the Legislature. Senator Kevin de León, a Latino leader who grew up in the Logan Heights Barrio is now President Pro Tem, the highest-ranking leader of the Senate.
This week, LCF hosted a reception in Sacramento to celebrate Latino leadership and to welcome the new Latino Caucus chair, Luis Alejo. Governor Jerry Brown made a surprise visit to recognize the Latino leadership of California. He and 18 other legislators reminded us of our collective power and pushed us to champion policies that inspire the rest of the nation.
The time to make lasting change for hard-working Latino families is NOW! We ask you to make time to meet with your legislators, they must stay informed and connected to the issues in our community. To help you learn more about the 2015 Latino Caucus and to schedule a meeting – we’ve created a Directory.
We invite you to join us in Sacramento for our 3rd Annual Sacramento Summit on May 20th. The Summit educates, inspires action, and creates meaningful connection among diverse Latino leaders and advocates. We must strengthen our voice and participation in policy!
