ELISABET MEDINA
SAN FRANCISCO LATINA GIVING CIRCLE
Elisabet has been a crucial part of the San Francisco Circle since day one! In her day job, she works at Safe and Sound, an organization focused on child abuse prevention, as the Family Shelter & Transitional Housing Program Manager. We are lucky to have you in our familia Elisabet! Thanks for all you do for our community and for this movement!
Who’s the biggest philanthropist in your family?
My parents are the biggest philanthropists, they are pastors in a farm worker community and they get together and celebrate birthdays and Christmas; they are family away from family and home away from home for a lot of people. Together with my sister Heidi, they even run a program for 50 kids in the neighborhood every Thursday!
When are you happiest?
I’m happiest on a Saturday morning, curled up with un cafecito and my cats Symba and Nala.
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
As a kid people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I wanted to be Selena.
CODEX PROGRAM (SOUTH MODESTO PARTNERSHIPS)
GRANTEE OF STANISLAUS COMMUNITY GIVING CIRCLE
When Emmanuel Escamilla, born and raised in Modesto, graduated from Harvard University with his Masters there was no question in his mind that he was coming back home. With the help of South Modesto Partnerships, he founded CodeX, a seven-week Summer program that exposes low-income middle school students to technology education through high-energy and hands-on instruction. The goal? Secure economic mobility by providing students with access – that’s the only thing holding them back! Currently, Emmanuel is riding his bike from SF to St. Augustine, Florida to raise funds for their program! Adelante!
