The Latino Community Foundation (LCF) is on mission to unleash the civic and economic power of Latinos in California. Our team has delivered impact and results against all odds these past couple of years. They have led with moral clarity, urgency, and a healthy ambition to ensure Latinos nonprofit leaders have the resources they need to drive social change. Above all else, our team has led with our core values, leading with trust, hope, and from a place of strength.
I am proud to announce that, as we continue to grow LCF, we are promoting three of our key leaders. It has been an honor to work with these fierce, determined leaders, and witness their professional and personal growth.
Christian Arana, Vice President of Policy, has led our policy and advocacy efforts through two critical elections. Through strategic planning and collaborations, the work led by Christian has reached over two million Latinos and most importantly contributed to historic Latino voter turnouts in key regions of our state. Christian also led our efforts as a statewide hub for Latino outreach for the 2020 Census. Together with our partners, LCF helped the State outperform national self-response rates and surpass the 2010 self-response rate. Christian has helped to elevate the national profile of LCF and our community partners, connecting reporters from the NYTimes, Washington Post, Politico, and others with key Latino leaders to shape and reinforce the narrative of Latinos as changemakers and thought leaders. As our Vice President of Policy, Christian will build on this momentum and ensure we continue to build the civic and political power of Latinos.
Masha V. Chernyak, Senior Vice President of Programs and Brand Strategy, has been instrumental to LCF’s success. She has been the architect of several of our key initiatives, including the first ever Latino Nonprofit Accelerator, and is co-creator of the Latino Giving Circle Network. For the past eight years, she has built trusted relationships with Latino nonprofit leaders—listening to their vision for change and creating opportunities to invest in them. A bold, passionate, strategic leader, Masha has helped to move the philanthropic sector to invest in change, not charity. Her work has leveraged investments that doubled the budgets of several organizations we support. At the home front, Masha lives out LCF’s values, fueling our culture of love, power, trust, and joy. In her new role as SVP of Programs and Brand Strategy, Masha will continue to lead and expand our successful core initiatives. She will also lead efforts to strategically elevate the work of Latino nonprofits in California and support LCF’s brand positioning.
Dr. Marcela Muñiz, Vice President of Philanthropy, joined LCF at a pivotal stage of growth in 2019 and has been instrumental in strengthening our fund development capacity. Marcela has worked closely with our senior team to build relationships with new and existing philanthropic partners. Bringing her wealth of experience as the former regional director of capital giving for Harvard University, she has set in motion the elements needed to successfully position LCF as an endowed community foundation. Marcela has also been central to our work in reaching a national and international audience with our mission. Building on her experience as a former Assistant Dean of Admission at Stanford University, where she led diversity outreach, she has helped broaden and deepen LCF’s reach and build relationships with diverse audiences across the country. As our VP of Philanthropy, Marcela will lead our fund development efforts to fulfill our philanthropic aspirations for the years ahead.
Please join me in celebrating our incredibly talented senior team and their well-deserved promotions! LCF’s team keeps getting stronger—and we thank you for being part of this journey.
With Love and Gratitude,
Jacqueline Martinez Garcel, CEO of the Latino Community Foundation
