Fred is one of the preeminent labor lawyers in the United States. He focuses substantial attention on strategic, preventive, and compliance advice and internal investigations. Appointed by President Ronald Reagan and confirmed by the Senate, Fred served two federal government sub-cabinet positions. As assistant secretary of labor, he managed and directed the Employment Standards Administration, the largest agency in the Department of Labor, which included the Wage and Hour Division and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. He also served as a commissioner of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Fred is consistently ranked in legal guides as among the top employment law practitioners representing employers. He is a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, former member Stanford University’s board of trustees, and former President of the Bar Association of San Francisco. Fred has also been appointed by state and federal courts to a variety of task forces as well as to judicial-selection and other court committees.
