Gissela is a proud Hondureña who is deeply committed to serving the undocumented community and the Latinx population in the United States.

In her role as Civic Engagement Intern, Gissela will work with LCF’s Policy Director to build on the tremendous work mobilizing Latinos for the 2020 Presidential Election and the 2020 Census.

For the past six years, she has worked on issues related to Central Americans, access to legal information for undocumented individuals and access to higher education for people of color. More recently, she had the opportunity to intern at the Wilson Center, a think tank in Washington DC. There, she assisted the Deputy Director of Latin America on research related to migration patterns from Central America, citizen security, rule of law and crime rates. In her free time, she dances Cuban salsa, hikes and watches The Office.

Gissela is a graduating senior at UC Berkeley majoring in Political Science with a focus on comparative politics. In the future, she plans to obtain a joint degree in public policy and use it to champion the needs of communities of color.
